Is AI keeping us up at night? How to deal with progress that is impossible to keep up with

Every day there is a new AI and keeping up with everything has become humanly impossible. AI will separate the average from the outstanding, and there are many opportunities for those who stand out.

I will be honest: I believe many professionals are having trouble sleeping. Especially tech enthusiasts, like me.

The fear of falling behind, the fear of not being able to keep up with all the changes happening every day. At the speed things are evolving, keeping up with everything is becoming humanly impossible.

Something new every day

Every day there is a new AI, an update from the big techs, a tool that promises to change everything. You have barely learned to use one solution and three others have already appeared doing something similar, only better.

And it is not just AI. Every day there is also a new startup. SaaS is becoming a commodity. Before, when someone had a great idea, they needed to know how to code or find someone who did to get the MVP off the ground. Today that is no longer necessary: with AI, anyone can build a working product in a short time.

The result is countless new solutions appearing on the market. The quality of many of them is still questionable, but even so, there is always a new one popping up. And, on the investor side, this has a clear effect: if anyone can build it, the product itself is worth less and less.

So what makes a project gain value in this scenario? In my view, precisely what AI cannot copy over a weekend:

  • Deep knowledge of the problem. People who live the day-to-day of a niche know how to solve pains that a generic product does not even see.
  • Distribution. Building became easy. Reaching the right customer is still hard, and those with channels, audience or relationships come out ahead.
  • Real customers and traction. People paying and renewing are worth more than any pretty prototype.
  • Proprietary data. Information only your business has, and that improves the product with use.
  • Brand and trust. In a sea of similar solutions, people choose those they know and trust.
  • The team and the founder. As I said in the post about communication, investors often bet more on the person presenting than on the idea itself.

When building becomes easy, value shifts to what is hard to copy.

At this pace, it is easy to feel anxious about everything. On one side, the desire to seize the opportunities artificial intelligence is bringing. On the other, the fear of becoming obsolete.

And for business owners, there is an extra layer: fear for the business itself. Artificial intelligence is entering practically every field. Ignoring it is not an option. We need to pay attention.

Calm down: AI will separate the average from the outstanding

Despite all this, it is time to calm down. AI is obviously here to stay. But, in my view, what it will do is separate those who are average from those who stand out.

If you are average, if you do what everyone does, the same way everyone does it, you really are at great risk. AI is very good at delivering the average, fast and cheap. But if you are different, you have the advantage.

AI is excellent at delivering the average. Your value lies in everything that goes beyond it.

Where the opportunities are

Looking ahead, I see at least three groups with plenty of room to grow.

People who work with their hands and craftsmanship. This group will gain a huge space of opportunity. Besides being work that AI does not easily replace, fewer and fewer people want to do these jobs. Less supply and steady demand means more value.

People who make things to measure. Products and services made and designed for each customer. People are increasingly tired of receiving the same thing, of being like everyone else and looking like everyone else. They want differentiation, and those who deliver it have a great opportunity.

People who use AI as leverage. AI does not have to be the competitor. Used the right way, it takes repetitive tasks off your plate and frees up time for what truly sets you apart: thinking, creating, building relationships and solving each customer’s specific problem.

If you just take orders, it is time for a plan B

Now, if your job is to take orders and always do the same thing, the same way, it is time to think about a plan B. This is not alarmism. It is exactly the kind of activity that AI and automation will absorb first.

A plan B does not mean giving up everything. It can mean learning to use AI in your own work, specializing in a niche, offering something more personalized or developing skills machines do not have.

How to keep up without losing sleep

If it is impossible to keep up with everything, the answer is not to try to keep up with more. It is to keep up better. A few things that help me:

  • Curate. Choose a few reliable sources and ignore the rest. You do not need to test every tool that shows up in your feed.
  • Start with the problem, not the tool. Instead of asking “which new AI do I need to use?”, ask “which problem in my business can AI solve?”.
  • Set aside fixed time to study and test. One or two hours a week, consistently, are worth more than anxious late-night marathons.
  • Learn the fundamentals. Tools change every week. Understanding how AI works, what it does well and where it fails is knowledge that lasts.
  • Bring your team along. No one needs to carry this change alone. That is what we did at Oxigenweb with our AI First culture.

And, above all, unplug a little. Resting is also part of keeping up well. Nobody makes good decisions about the future while exhausted.

What sets us apart from AI

In the end, the question is not whether AI will change your work. It will. The question is what you have that AI does not: critical thinking, creativity, background, relationships, the ability to understand each person’s context and to have a real differentiator.

That is what I want to talk about in the next posts: critical thinking, differentiation and what truly makes us irreplaceable. For now, the message is: breathe. Technology will keep accelerating, but those who know where they want to go do not need to chase everything.
